Manakamana Cable Car is the 1st established cable car service in Nepal. The establishment of the cable car in the year 1998 turned the exhausting 3-4 hours climb to the hilltop into a comfortable 10 minutes trip for the pilgrims visiting the Hindu shrine Manakamana Temple.
Located in the Gorkha district, Manakamana Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Bhagwati. Every day thousands of devotees visit Manakamana temple hoping that the Goddess Bhagwati will grant their wishes. Although people visit the site throughout the year, an exceptional crowd can be seen during Dashain (Sep-Oct) and Nag Panchami (July-Aug).
The Manakamana Cable car ride is available from Kurintar, 5 km east of Mugling. The cable car ride operates from 9 am to 5 pm and covers a distance of 2.8km in just 10 minutes. Each cable car in Manakamana can carry six people at a time. Apart from the Hindu shrine, another attraction of the Manakamana tour is the majestic sights of Annapurna II, Lamjung Himal, and Baudha Himal. Around the Manakamana temple, one can find shops selling unique handicrafts and souvenirs that are too cute to handle.
Although the Manakamana cable car ride is popular among visitors, you can also opt for hiking to the temple. The hiking route to Manakamana temple passes through the local village, orange fields, forests, and terraced fields.

Established in 2016, the Chandragiri cable car runs from Thankot to Chandragiri hills. The Chandragiri hill carries historical and religious importance to the Nepalese, as it is believed that the Chandragiri hill is the site where King Prithvi Narayan shah decided to make Kathmandu the capital of a unified Nepal. And religiously, it is also believed that the forehead of Sati Devi, the first consort of Lord Shiva, fell on the site while he carried her dead body in rage.
The Thankot to Chandragiri Cable car ride covers 2.5km in just 9 minutes. Visitors can enjoy the cable car ride in whatever season they want. But the month of September to February is considered to be the perfect time as one can enjoy the sights of Everest, Langtang, and Manaslu.
The major attraction of the Chandragiri hill for the Hindus is the Bhaleshwor temple located on the hilltop. The temple is built on the site where the forehead of Sati Devi fell off. Kalinchowk cable car is the third cable car in Nepal, located in the Kalinchowk VDC of Dolakha district. The cable car was launched in 2018 and is operated from Kuri village to Kalinchowk temple.
Every year in the month from December to February, many people visit the site to enjoy snowfall and to offer their prayers to Bhagwati, a Hindu goddess known to fulfill pilgrims' prayers and desires. Before the establishment of the cable car in the area, visitors/pilgrims would hike 1-2 hours to reach the temple. However, now it's just a 5-minute ride from Kuri village. From the highest altitude of Kalinchowk Bhagwati temple (3755 meters), you can enjoy the panorama of Annapurna, Lamjung, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Shisha Panga, Langtang, Dorjee Lakpa, Jugal Himal, Amabamori, Gauri Shanker, and Namburi Himal. Besides the Himalayas, you can also see two natural springs called Sundhara and Tama, the source of two rivers, the Sunkoshi and Tama Koshi Rivers.

The drive from Phewa Lake to Sarangkot took around 35-45 minutes before the establishment of the cable car, meaning anyone keen on witnessing the sunrise view would have to wake 2-3 hours early to reach the viewpoint to enjoy the magical sights.
