Overview

If we have to talk about the legendary and classic treks in Nepal, then the Annapurna Base Camp trek will definitely be at the top of our list. It is one of the earliest trekking routes in Nepal that adventurers from around the world have explored.

Today, the Annapurna Base Camp has become a world-class trekking destination and also one of the most commercialized trekking routes in Nepal. The trailhead is easily accessible from Pokhara, the city of the lake.

You can reach Pokhara in just 6 hours of driving from Kathmandu or 25 minutes of a short domestic flight. There are many itineraries for the Annapurna Base Camp trek, combining different villages and viewpoints.

You can find both short and long itineraries as per your requirements. This is our 11 days Annapurna Base Camp trek package. Travelers looking for a trek in under two weeks will find this itinerary quite appealing. You will start the journey from Kathmandu and end here.

For less than USD 800, you can have a lifetime experience. The trekking part involves traversing beautiful Nepali villages resided by several communities like Chhetri, Brahmin, Gurung, Magar, etc.

Enjoy nature, wilderness, stunning mountain views, breathtaking landscapes, and the warm hospitality of the locals. The unique aspect of this Annapurna Base Camp itinerary is you will start the trek from Phedi and explore Landruk and Dhampus village before continuing to Chhomrong.

Not many trekkers follow this route, so you will have ample peaceful time before joining the mainstream trail followed by the most trekkers. We love the mountain panoramas along the Annapurna Base Camp trail.

You can see Annapurna I, Annapurna II, Annapurna South, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Hiunchuli, Fishtail, Gangapurna, and many other mountains while trekking. The journey will be unforgettable.

What is it like trekking to Annapurna Base Camp?

The Annapurna Base Camp trek explores the beautiful Annapurna Himalayas. The itinerary takes you to picturesque Gurung and Magar villages, traverses the lovely rhododendron forests, and offers breathtaking mountain panoramas.

You will walk following uneven hillsides, enjoying never-ending lovely views of lush hills and gorges. Once you start trekking from Phedi, the trail keeps ascending gradually. 5 to 6 hours of walking is given every day. However, some days can get shorter or longer.

The trail goes through many villages where you can see the lifestyle of the locals and have wholesome interactions. The Annapurna Base Camp trail also involves many stone staircases that you will climb up and down along the way.
As you will be traveling in the mountains, the air is clean, and the atmosphere is rejuvenating. Walking long hours does demand a lot of focus, but we assure you that whenever you turn your head up and around, soothing scenery will wipe your sweat.

You can see the majestic view of the snow-capped mountains throughout the way. The landscape is much more heavenly in spring when all the foothills blossom with rhododendrons and the horizon is dominated by snow-covered mountains.

Spend nights in villages like Landruk, Chhomrong, and Himalayan Hotel on the way to ABC. You will see the infamous Hinku Cave and discover the Annapurna Sanctuary. The final stretch of the trail is narrow, steep, and rocky. Annapurna Base Camp is the highest point on this trek.

Spend a night at the base camp and the next day descend to Bamboo, following the same route. From here, the route turns to Jhinu Danda, where you will enjoy natural hot springs. A gradual walk from here will take you to Syauli Bazar, from where you will drive back to Pokhara.

How are the trekking facilities on the Annapurna Base Camp trek route?

The Annapurna Base Camp trek route is one of the most established trekking routes in the Annapurna region. This trek is done by hundreds of trekkers every year, so the trail has seen excellent development in trekking infrastructure.

Budget-friendly to relatively premium lodges are available for trekkers. You can choose between single and twin-shared rooms. Note that single rooms cost a few extra bucks. Lodges offer clean bedding and blankets, but it will not be spotless.

So, if you are highly sensitive, carry a pillow cover and bedsheet with you. Or, you can carry a sleeping bag. Similarly, Western-style toilets are available everywhere, with other facilities like charging, hot showers, etc.

The climate is cold during the trek, as you will be at a high elevation. When you walk, you will not feel cold, but while resting, the cold climate hits, so we don't think a hot shower will be ideal during this short trek. Instead, you can use wet wipes to keep yourself clean.

Likewise, you can find snacks and fruits to purchase while passing by villages. Given the location and geography, the network is not stable everywhere. So, we do not suggest you have high hopes of using the internet during trekking.

Trek difficulty and altitude sickness

Annapurna Base Camp is an entry-level trek in Nepal. It is known to be a moderate trek, which is doable for beginner trekkers with no previous high-altitude experience. The trek requires 5 to 6 hours of walking daily.

You will follow rugged trails that constantly ascend and descend. Likewise, the trekking region is remote, so facilities along the trail are limited. We will book the accommodation in advance for you, so there will be no issue with accommodation.

However, do not expect anything fancy. Trekkers who are fit and healthy will enjoy the journey to the fullest. One of the challenges of Annapurna Base Camp trekking is its high altitude.

You will reach 4,130 meters (13,550 ft) above sea level on this trek, which is a lot for many trekkers. However, this altitude is touched in four days of walking. During those four days, you will ascend high and sleep low, acclimatizing your body.

You can do a few things like slowly ascend, maintain your pace, and drink lots of water to get used to your surroundings and avoid altitude sickness. Be mindful of symptoms like headache, vomiting, nausea, insomnia, difficulty in breathing, dizziness, etc. Inform your guide if you feel uncomfortable.

The best time to do the Annapurna Base Camp trek 11 days

The Annapurna Base Camp trekking season is spring and autumn. Trekking in winter is also highly recommended. Summer/monsoon is not a great time of the year to do this trek because of muddy, slippery trails.

However, if you like rainfall and don't mind muddy trails and leeches, you will also enjoy trekking this season. The weather remains stable in spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), which makes these two seasons ideal for trekking to Annapurna Base Camp.

The mountain views are fantastic, and the climate is moderate. You will not feel too hot or cold. The drawback of these two seasons are crowded trails, but it will not affect your journey if you love being around people.

Not to mention, you will also have many opportunities to make new friends. Winter is the coldest time of the year. Thick blankets of snow cover the entire region. The temperature drops below significantly. If the day is not gloomy, you will enjoy the warm rays of the sun.

The mountain's views are heavenly on clear days, and the trails are empty. Dress up properly and pack all essentials. You will find trekking to Annapurna Base Camp in winter.

Accommodation and meals

Twin-shared rooms or three bedrooms are usually available for trekkers. Single rooms are found in selected villages and cost more. Many lodges have Western-style toilets,, but you may also have to use squat-toilets.

Likewise, our package includes three meals a day- breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You will get a variety of options to choose from. The breakfast menu includes oatmeal, French toast, chapati, cornflakes, muesli, soup, porridge, toast, eggs, tea, coffee, etc.
