Gokyo Lake Trekking presents an exceptional chance to witness gigantic Himalayan ranges. The mountains are over 8000m including the highest Mt. Everest, Cho-Oyu, Lhotse, Makalu, and the Ngozumpa Glacier-the largest glacier in Nepal Himalayas.

Overview of the Gokyo Lake Trekking Itinerary – 15 Days

To begin our trekking from Lukla Airport, walk down to the Dudh Koshi River. From here, we will stick with the major track to Namche Bazaar, a prosperous village situated in a huge secluded bowl-shaped region. You will have a marvelous experience here.

And the remarkable sight of the Khumbu mountains like Ama Dablam (6856m), Thamserku (6608m) as well as immense vistas of Everest will spellbind you. As we reach, Machherma the awe-inspiring vistas of Cho-Oyu, Kantega and Thamserku will captivate you.

We will also walk on the messy, risky moraines of Ngozumpa Glacier – the main glacier in Nepal.

We will be enchanted by varied scenery of the Gokyo Valley including the series of beautiful Gokyo lake. We will get to observe the first lake Longpongo situated at the height of 4690m.

Subsequently, the second lake, Taboche Tsho totally enthralled us with its shiny turquoise blue water alluring in the sun. In series, the third lake comes into sight. We will also notice that the Gokyo village set by the third lake and Cho-Oyu peak as a backdrop provides a wonderful sight here.

Trip information about Kathmandu to Lukla to Kathmandu flight

The Everest trek includes a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. Sometimes the weather of Lukla becomes bad, at which time the flight cannot take place. So, in this case, there may be a delay or cancel of the flights.

You will have to be prepared for this. This does not always happen but may sometimes happen depending on the weather condition. The weather of Lukla is unpredictable, that’s why.

We recommend you to have a few more days after the trek in case the flight is delayed or canceled. If you have a tight schedule, it will be hard to manage your return flight.

So, even the Gokyo Lake Trekking is of days 15 days, we recommend you to have 2 to 3 extra days. If the flight does not happen for 2 to 3 days, then we will divert you to Annapurna Base Camp Trek and Kathmandu to Pokhara flight for your benefit.

We also recommend you to have an extra budget for helicopter charter to return back from Lukla to Kathmandu. The helicopter cost is 3500 USD charter flights. It will be approx 500 USD per person which you can pay us by cash or credit card.

As you land at Kathmandu airport, an agent from Trekking Guide Team Adventure will wait for you with a play card. S/he will greet you and transfer you to the hotel. Overnight at Kathmandu.

This is the second last day in Nepal and after experiencing wonderful trekking. We will have an extraordinary sightseeing tour to some of the artistic and historical placed enlisted in UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

You will make a trip to Swayambhunath (Monkey temple) lying on the hillock holds Buddha’s eyes on the four sides of the stupa.

Pashupatinath temple, a well-known Hindu temple devoted to Lord Shiva. It is located on the banks of the holy Bagmati River.

Boudhanath, one of the largest on the earth; and Patan Durbar Square lying centre of the town of Lalitpur which allures visitors showing up antique royal palace where the Malla Kings of Lalitpur once resided. Overnight at Kathmandu.

At 4:30 am, you can have a cup of tea and ask the hotel for your packing breakfast and be ready by 5 am at Hotel lobby, our car will drop you to the airport for your Lukla flight. Today we will take a wonderful flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2827m).

After 40 minutes, we will land in a runway and our caretaker will help us carry our belongings. Then we will walk down to the Dudh Koshi River, where we connect with the main path to Namche Bazaar.

After moving all the way through the small area of Ghat (2550m), we will soon arrive at our tea house at Phakding. Overnight at tea house.

Note: The weather in Lukla is unpredictable and always changing. Sometimes due to bad weather, sometimes the flight may be delayed or cancelled. If the flight is cancelled, you will have to return back to the hotel.

The transportation back to the hotel and accommodation on this night is not included. You will have to pay additional for this yourself. If the weather is clear the next day, you will get either the 3rd or 4th flight to Lukla.

If still, the weather is not clear, there will be option for helicopter flights also. The cost of a helicopter flight is not fixed. It will be quoted by the airlines on the same day.

The airlines will use your flight ticket plus, you will have to pay an additional approx 250 to 300 USD. The total cost for a helicopter flight is 400 USD approx. You will have to pay an additional 250 USD combining your Lukla flight ticket.

The weather problem is rare, it only happens sometimes. But you need to know this information in case the weather goes bad. This does not happen all the time, this is only important information you need to know.

From Phakding, we will move forward with a quite easy ascend to get to Jorsale and walk ahead passing a waterfall. Now, the track settlements are filled with amazing woods of rhododendron, magnolia trees as well as colossal firs.

Next, we will stroll to Namche going across some bridges. After that, we will climb moderately hundred meters and walk straight down and with one steeper way up all the way through the wooded region. We will trek for 4 hours today and stay at tea house.

This day is to rest at Namche Bazaar to get properly accustomed to the high elevated environment. At Namche, a prosperous village situated in a huge secluded bowl-shaped region, you will have a marvelous experience.

A remarkable sight of the Khumbu mountains like Ama Dablam (6856m), Thamserku (6608m) as well as immense vistas of Everest will spellbind you.

Additionally, we will walk to Thami (3810m) above the splendid Bhote Khola River Valley. We may also visit the Sagarmatha National park to view the protected floras and faunas. Overnight at tea house.

We will go hiking from Namche Bazar after resting for a day. Today, our path will move downhill and then we will climb to pass via the Mon-La pass before reaching Phortse Tenga.

Also, we will pass the rhododendron and birch forest decked out with hanging lichens and mosses. Moving further on from Phortse Tenga, we will ascend to get to Dole.

On this day, we will walk for approximately 5 hours, we stay at tea house.

We will depart from Dole to reach Machherma lying at the height of 4470m. On the way, we will notice the stunning valley where the rhododendron woods give way.

Significantly, the marvelous vistas of Cho-Oyu, Kantega and Thamserku will mesmerize you. On the whole, we will walk for 4 hours today and we will stay at the tea house.

Today in Machhermo, we will rest again to acclimatize with the high elevated atmosphere. We can also walk around Machherma situated at the height of 4470m.

The place hides the tale of the ‘yeti’ which killed three yaks and wounded a Sherpa girl in 1974. Overnight we will stay at the tea house. 

This is one of the significant days of the trek. In addition, you will go by Gokyo-Ri lying at the elevation of 4750m. Today we will ramble for approximately 4 hours.

Additionally, we will pass from side to side with Pangka and later we will walk on the messy, risky moraines of Ngozumpa Glacier–the major glacier in Nepal. We will also get to witness the sequence of stunning greenish-blue Gokyo Lake.

We will be enchanted by varied scenery of the Gokyo Valley as adjacent peaks flanking Tibet and Cho Oyu can be noted. We will after that get to to the second lake of stunning Gokyo which will completely enthrall you. At the shore lying on the east, we can notice the settlement of Gokyo. We will trek for roughly 5 hours today. Overnight at tea house. 

On this day we will hike up to Gokyo Peak taking around 3 hours and reach at an elevation of 5360m. From the peak, we can witness the striking panorama of Mt. Everest, Makalu etc. Then we will walk back moving downward to reach Gokyo again. We will trek further down to reach Dole. Overnight at tea house. 

We will on this day trek to Khumjung village set at the elevation of 3780m. Dole actually blooms strikingly especially during the springtime with numerous flowers. Walking further, we will reach to hidden valley, Khumjung village. This is one of the most important villages in the Everest Region.

Here we will make a trip to Khumjung monastery and also see the sights of the surrounding village occupied by Sherpa people. Overnight at tea house.

We will leave Khumjung village. After that, the way moves to Syangboche runway which rewards us with charming peak views. Also, we will walk to Thame village.

As we depart from Thami, we will walk across the Bhote Khola by means of a bridge. We will after that walk all the way from side to side with the area of Thamo and get there at Namche Bazaar.

Walking down, we will cross the large suspension bridge above the Dudh Kosi River and then pass all the way through Jorsale to get to Manjo. Overnight at tea house.

This is the last day of the trek. We will walk ahead from Manjo to get to Lukla which is situated at the altitude of 2840 meters. Which takes approximately 5 hours. Here we will celebrate the success of our trek. Overnight at tea house.

Early in the morning, we will fly to Kathmandu on this day. After that, we will transfer to our hotel in Kathmandu. Rest of the day to explore around Kathmandu if any remaining. Overnight in the hotel.

Today is the last day of the trek in Nepal. Our representative will help you to drive to the airport for departure.

  • The EBC trek begins with an early morning flight to Lukla, either from Kathmandu Airport or Ramechhap Airport. It is a short but beautiful flight with stunning Himalayan mountain views. From Lukla, we will begin trekking with porters and descend to Phakding for the night stay. The trail goes through forests and small villages, offering stunning views of mountains like Kongde Ri and Chamlang.

    *Note: If you take a Lukla flight from Ramechhap Airport, you will leave the hotel in Kathmandu around 1:00 AM and dive to the Ramechhap airport in sharing bus. During the peak trekking seasons, the Lukla flights get shifted to Ramechhap Airport because of very high air traffic.
