We will drive from Pokhara to Kande, enjoying the beautiful countryside and mountain views. From Kande, the trail starts. We will trek following lush hillsides and soon follow the forested route to Australian Camp. On the way, we get to see superb hills and mountain views of the Annapurna range. The trail then gradually ascends to Pothana and from here, continues to Pitam Deurali.

We will begin the morning with a delicious breakfast and start trekking from Pitam Deurali to Low Camp. The trail heads north and enters a dense forest covered with rhododendrons and many other wildflowers. This part of the route is cold because sunlight is minimal due to the density of the forest. However, the refreshing scent of nature will rejuvenate our souls. The trail ascends to Low Camp. The landscapes are very captivating, with a close view of Mt. Fishtail.

From the Low Camp, we will ascend to the High Camp. The trail goes through a lush forest of oak and rhododendrons. In 1 to 2 hours of trekking we will reach the Middle Camp. From here, the trail ascends to the Badal Danda. The mountain views are outstanding from here. Further, we will trek along the Mardi Himal ridge and reach High Camp for the night stay. From here, we can see stunning views of Mt. Annapurna, Mt. Fishtail, and Mt. Hiunchuli.

Today, we will trek to the Mardi Himal Base Camp. Leave the High Camp early in the morning. Follow a narrow, steep trail that ascends to the base camp. Upon reaching the base camp, we will get to see a breathtaking sunrise and surreal mountain vistas of Annapurna, Hiunchuli, Fishtail, Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri, and many others.

After enjoying some time at the Mardi Himal Base Camp, we will follow the same trail and descend to Low Camp. It is a long descent but does not take the same time that we spent during ascending. It is our last day of trekking. From Siding, we will descend to Lumre, where the trek ends. The trail goes through lush forests and small settlements. From Lumre, we will use a local jeep and drive to Pokhara. The guide will drop you to the hotel. The remaining day is free in Pokhara. In the late evening, we will gather for the farewell dinner.

To do the short Mardi Himal trek, you will need two permits - an Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) entry permit and a TIMS Card. Our package included both permit fees. Your passport details, passport-sized photos, and the permit fee are needed to obtain the permits. Our team will receive both permits for you.

Short Mardi Himal trek difficulty & altitude sickness

The short Mardi Himal trek difficulty is moderate. The lower part of the trail is dominated by dense forests. You do not need technical skills to do this trek, however good stamina and balance are needed. As the trail ascends, you will come across steep and rocky terrains.

The hike from the High Camp to the Mardi Himal Base Camp is challenging. The trail is much steeper and slippery in this section. On other days, you will enjoy pleasant walking via forests and streams. Throughout the short Mardi Himal trek, you will cover around 40 - 50 kilometers (28-31 miles) and ascend to 4,500 meters (14,764 ft).

Every day, you will be trekking for 5 to 7 hours on average. Because the short Mardi Himal trek sees high altitude, trekkers have to be careful of altitude sickness on this trek. If you stay hydrated and take necessary precautions, you can easily avoid it. Lodge and tea house accommodation is available along the short Mardi Himal trek route. It provides accommodation and meal services to the trekkers with minimal but essential amenities. The rooms mostly consist of two beds, and toilets are usually shared. Running hot water is not available in the teahouses, however some places offer hot water in buckets at an additional charge.

The food variety is not that extensive, but you will get decent dishes like dal bhat, pasta, momo, thukpa, noodles, sandwiches, porridge, rice with curries, chapati, soups, pancakes, toast, eggs, etc. The produce is locally grown, so you can expect clean meals. Carry energy bars, snacks, and chocolate with you. Similarly, you will get boiled drinking water in all places.

What is the best time to do the short Mardi Himal trek?

Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) are the best seasons for the short Mardi Himal trek. You can also do this trek in the winter season (December to February), but the trail is covered with snow. Likewise, trekking between June to August (summer/monsoon) is the most challenging because of muddy and slippery trails with frequent rainfall.

In spring and autumn, the weather remains stable. The daytime is neither too hot nor cold. The mornings and nights are a bit colder.   • WiFi/network during the trek: The short Mardi Himal trail does not have a strong network coverage. It may come and go as you trek. The majority of tea houses/lodges offer WiFi at an additional cost, but the speed may not be that great.
