Meet the representatives of the Trekking Guide Team Adventure at the Tribhuvan International Airport. They will welcome you and transfer you to the hotel in Thamel. We will use a private vehicle to travel from the airport to the hotel. Spend some time getting fresh and later meet us for trek briefing and trek preparation.

The Pikey Peak trek starts from Dhap. You will leave Kathmandu early in the morning and drive to Dhap Bazaar in a local jeep. As per the group size, we may hire a private jeep or share the jeep with others. The road follows the beautiful Sunkoshi River. Drive along winding hillsides, enjoying beautiful panoramas of the countryside.

The drive will be fabulous because of the enchanting scenery. Upon reaching Dhap Bazaar, you will see snow-capped mountains in the distance. It will be a true spellbound moment. Spend the night here resting and getting ready for the trek.

From Dhap, the trail goes to Sigane. You will see an outstanding view of Numbur Himal from here. The trail then continues along a road to Jhapre. Jhapre is located on the top of a deep valley. Leaving Jhapre, you will ascend towards the Pikey Peak Base Camp. The trail follows a grassy ridge and ascends to Bhulbhule. The view of Mount Everest is fantastic from here. Further, you will traverse via dense forests to Taklung Danda. On the way, you can see rich vegetation and the national flower of Nepal- rhododendrons. It will be a peaceful and soothing walk via beautiful nature.

Today, you will hike to Pikey Peak from the Pikey Peak Base Camp. You will begin early in the morning before the sunrise. From the base camp, the trail ascends along the western face of the mountains. Enjoy views of many snow-capped mountains on the way. Navigate a curve and come across colorful prayer flags from where you can see a glimpse of the Pikey Peak's summit.

Further hike to the top. Witness a gorgeous sunrise and breathtaking views of mountains like Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Thamserku, etc. You will witness a stretching view of the Himalayan ranges. After enjoying the view, descend to the base camp and continue trekking via pine groves to Jasmane Bhanjyang for the night stay.

After a delicious breakfast, you will begin trekking from Jasmane Bhanjyang to Junbesi. The trail goes through dense forests and meadows. Today is the last day of the trek. The trail descends from Junbesi to Phaplu, following a dust trail. You will drop to Junbesi Khola and cross it via a suspension bridge. After crossing the khola, trek to Beni Ghat. The trail goes through lush forests and takes you to Phaplu. Phaplu is a Sherpa village where you will get to see the culture and lifestyle of this community.

Pikey Peak Trekking Permits:

Pikey Peak trek requires two permits- TIMS Card and the Gaurishankar Conservation Area Permit. You can obtain permits in Kathmandu at the Nepal Tourism Board Office. Our team will help you to obtain the permit without any hassle. The permit fees are included in the Pikey Peak trek cost, so you do not need to pay extra.

  • TIMS Card cost: Nrs 2000 per person
  • Gaurishankar Conservation Area permit cost: Nrs 3000 per person

Pikey Peak trek difficulty and altitude sickness

Pikey Peak trek difficulty is moderate. It is one of the beginner-friendly trekking programs near Kathmandu. The elevation gain is also comparatively low the Pikey Peak trek, so it is a perfect trek for someone worried about altitude sickness or high altitude in general. The trail follows lush forests and winding hillsides.

Daily 5 to 6 hours of walking is needed, so trekkers have to be in decent shape. You will mostly ascend or descend, so your stamina should be good. Likewise, the terrain is rugged and steep in some sections. Overall, the Pikey Peak trek route is not physically that challenging if you are well prepared.

Even though the risk of altitude sickness is low on the Pikey Peak trek, you have to be aware of its symptoms. They are- difficulty breathing, headache, vomiting, insomnia, nausea, and loss of appetite. Trekkers rarely see these symptoms during the Pikey Peak trekking. If you happen to get any of these symptoms, let your guide know and get first aid from him.

Best time to do the Pikey Peak trek

The best time to do the Pikey Peak trek is from September to November and March to May. These months have stable weather and a mild climate, which makes trekking via lush forests to the top of Pikey Peak fantastic. You will not feel super hot or cold. Mornings and nights are colder than daytime. So, pack a few warm pieces.

Similarly, the mountain views are crystal clear in these months. You will get to see stunning vistas from day one. The vegetation and flowers make the trekking route exceptionally beautiful. Come across a wide range of flora and may see some exotic while trekking between September to November and March to May.

June to August and December to February are not ideal trekking times. These months have many weather challenges. The trail is not in good condition because of heavy rainfall between June to August. Whereas, December to February sees extreme cold. If you are fine with cold weather, you may consider doing the Pikey Peak trek in winter.

Accommodation and meals during the trek

Pikey Peak trek route has tea house accommodation where trekkers spend nights and have meals. It is a basic type of accommodation, where the services are limited and may cost you a few bucks. So, kindly carry some money to buy additional services during the trek. The rooms in tea houses are small and shared between two trekkers.

Single rooms cost extra money. Let us know in advance if you want single rooms in tea houses during trekking. The washrooms are shared, too. You will get squat style in most of the places. Make sure you have well packed all the toiletries. For extra comfort, carry sleeping bags. There is no ATM on the Pikey Peak trek route, so withdraw ample cash in Kathmandu to use during the trek.

You will get breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the trek. Meals will be fresh and delicious. For breakfast, options like porridge, toast, eggs, pancakes, oats, muesli, chapati, etc are available. For heavy meals, you get options like dal bhat, curries, fried rice, momo, thukpa, noodles, burgers, pasta, pizza, etc. Similarly, there is also a good variety of tea and coffee available along the way.

Travel insurance for Pikey Peak trek
