Permit Costs for Manaslu Circuit Trek 2026
Permits for the Manaslu Circuit are more complex and more expensive than for open trekking routes. Here is what is required:
| Permit | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Manaslu RAP (Sep–Nov) | USD 100 for the first 7 days + USD 15/day after | Peak season rate |
| Manaslu RAP (Dec–Aug) | USD 75 for the first 7 days + USD 10/day after | Off-peak rate |
| MCAP (Manaslu Conservation) | NPR 3,000 (~USD 22) | Same all year |
| ACAP (Annapurna Conservation) | NPR 3,000 (~USD 22) | Same all year |
| Chumnubri local fee | NPR 1,000 (~USD 8) | Paid at checkpoint, not in package |
| Total permits (approx, peak season) | ~USD 150–180 pp | Already included in our package price |
Two rules catch people out. First, the Manaslu RAP has traditionally required at least two trekkers on the same permit, and the rules for solo trekkers have been changing — message us and we will confirm the current position and sort it for you. Second, a licensed guide is mandatory by law — there is no legal way to trek Manaslu independently. Our package includes the guide so this is handled automatically.
Our package price covers all the permits listed above except the Chumnubri local fee, which you pay directly at the checkpoint on the trail. Permit fees are set by the Government of Nepal and can change, so we always confirm the current rate when we process your permits.
Daily Spending on the Manaslu Circuit
The package covers accommodation and three meals per day. Additional spending depends on your habits. Here is a realistic guide to extras:
| Item | Lower Villages (e.g. Macchakhola) | Mid Route (e.g. Namrung) | Upper Route (e.g. Samagaun, Samdo) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hot shower | NPR 200–300 (~USD 1.50) | NPR 300–400 (~USD 2.50) | NPR 400–500 (~USD 3.50) |
| Wifi (per day) | NPR 200–300 | NPR 300–500 | Limited or unavailable |
| Phone charging | NPR 100–150 | NPR 150–200 | NPR 200–300 |
| Bottled water (1L) | NPR 80–100 | NPR 120–150 | NPR 150–200 |
| Coke / Fanta | NPR 150–200 | NPR 200–250 | NPR 250–350 |
| Snickers / chocolate bar | NPR 200–300 | NPR 300–400 | NPR 350–500 |
| Extra tea/coffee | NPR 80–120 | NPR 100–150 | NPR 150–200 |
Everything gets more expensive as you climb. Items are carried up by mule or porter, so a bottle of water that costs NPR 80 at Macchakhola costs NPR 150–200 at Samdo. Budget around USD 15–25 per day for extras if you like hot showers and wifi.

How to Save Money on the Manaslu Circuit
Travel in off-peak season
The Manaslu RAP is cheaper outside the September–November peak window (USD 75 instead of USD 100 for the first week). If you can trek in December–February or March–May, permit costs are lower and teahouses are quieter. Note that Larkya La can have snow in winter — check trail conditions with your guide.
Choose a larger group
Our pricing drops from USD 1,080 (solo) to USD 975 (2–4 pax) to USD 890 (5–8 pax). If you are travelling as a couple, you already get the group rate. If you are solo, joining a scheduled departure brings the cost down significantly.
Take the sharing bus, not a private jeep
The sharing bus from Kathmandu to Macchakhola is included in the package. A private jeep upgrade is more comfortable but adds to cost. For most trekkers, the bus is perfectly fine — it is 7–8 hours and the road is decent.
Use water purification, not bottles
A UV pen or filter (Sawyer Squeeze, Steripen) costs USD 25–40 before you leave home and eliminates bottled water costs for the entire trek. At USD 1.50–2.00 per litre at altitude, it pays for itself in a few days.
Is Manaslu Circuit Good Value?
Compared to EBC, Manaslu costs less in total (EBC adds Lukla flights at USD 180–200 each way), the trail is far less crowded, and the permit system means every trekker has a licensed guide — which significantly improves safety. For the price of a well-run EBC package, you get a more remote and technically comparable trek with dramatically fewer people on the trail. See our EBC vs Manaslu Circuit comparison for the full side-by-side.
