Langtang lies in the Himalayan region of Nepal. The valley shares its border with Tibet. It lies north of Kathmandu. Langtang Gosainkunda and Helambu Trek has become one of the popular trekking destinations in Nepal.
Langtang National Park is the first national park in the Himalaya which lies in this region. People living in the area are mostly Tamang people. The park has many famous sacred sites that are important for different religions like Hinduism and Buddhism. These sites include Gosainkunda Lake, Kyanjin Gompa Buddhist monastery.
This narrow valley lies just north of Kathmandu. The national park was designated Nepal’s first National park in 1971. Langtang Gosainkunda and Helambu Trek offers the opportunity to explore Tamang village, to climb small peaks and to see Langtang glaciers at a comfortably low elevation.
Most of the routes are through semi-tropical forests where moss covers the ground and lush farm and orchids cling to tree trunks.
Overview of the Langtang Gosainkunda and Helambu Trek – 17 Days
17 Days Langtang Gosainkunda and Helambu Trek trekking starts with a drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubeshi. And walking up to Langtang valley. The Langtang valley is one of the most beautiful in the world. The people of the valley are friendly and have a Tibetan culture that is originally from Tibet.
Gosaikunda is an alpine freshwater lake in Langtang National Park. The Trisuli River is formed from the melting of the lake. The lake remains frozen for six months in winter. During the full moon in August, the sacred lake of Gosainkund is the goal among the thousands of Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims.
We have to climb up to (4,610m) Lauribina pass explore tropical Helambu Sherpa & Tamang village. We can meet friendly and hospitable people with strong family and cultural ties.
Trek to Chisapani cross to Shivapuri National Park this trekking ending point Sundarijal & drive back to Kathmandu.
There is no tourist bus service from Kathmandu to Suaprubesi to Kathmandu. You will need to travel by local bus. You can travel by private Jeep which will be more comfortable for you. Please let us know if you would like to travel by jeep or by Local bus.

Day 01: Arrival Kathmandu airport pick up to a hotel. Overnight at Kathmandu.
One of our representatives will greet you at the Tribhuvan International Airport holding “Trekking Guide Team Adventure” Play card with your name on it. He will transfer you to the hotel. Overnight at Kathmandu.
Day 02: Sightseeing Tour in Kathmandu Valley (Swayambhunath and Boudhanath, Pashupatinath Temple & Patan durbar square and overnight at Kathmandu.) (B)
You should be ready at 9 Am. After breakfast, we will have an amazing sightseeing trip. We will visit Swayambhunath (Monkey temple), Boudhanath, Pashupatinath temple, Durbar Squares of Patan and around Kathmandu with many more cultural as well as historical places.
The sightseeing entry fee is not included in the package, you have to pay this directly at sightseeing places. Our sightseeing will end at approx 3 pm. Later afternoon comprises short briefing and final preparation for the trek.
Day 03: Drive to Syabrubesi 1,460m – 08 hours drive. (B/L/D)
Morning an interesting drive to Syabrubesi. The journey takes on the winding road passing many farm villages and towns to Trisuli Bazaar. It is situated in a sub-tropical climate, from here drive climbs to the cooler area leaving the rice fields to maize and millet terraced farm fields. The climate changes to a cooler temperature.
On reaching Dhunche town at 1950 meters, the main town of Langtang area and Rasuwa district with Langtang National Park headquarter. From here drive continues downhill for two hours to Syabrubesi village for overnight halt.
Day 04: Trek to Lama Hotel Riverside 2, 350 m – 06 hours. (B/L/D)
The first-day walk from Syabrubesi starts with an uphill for a while. The rest of the trekking is on the gradual winding path passing terraced farms and small villages.
Then the path descends to join the trail of Upper Syabru near Riverside Lodge. From here a nice uphill walk through the rhododendron and pine forest to Lama Hotel for an overnight stop.
Day 05: Trek to Langtang village 3, 307m – 05 hours. (B/L/D)
After Lama Hotel walk continues for a few on the road to Langtang village. The walk on the winding uphill for an hour through cool alpine forest. After wading a small stream then leaving the tree line behind the path leads uphill for an hour.
On the winding path with ups and downs till Langtang village is reached for overnight halt with time to visit the village around with a glimpse of Langtang Himal.
Day 06: Trek to Kyngin Gompa 3,749 m – 04 hours. (B/L/D)
From Langtang village walking on the gentle path for a while, then the trail winds to a climb for hours into Burberry and alpine bushes. Passing “mani-prayer wall” the walk leads further east, then the valley opens into a wide valley with excellent views of snow-capped mountains.
Then after hours of nice morning walk reaching Kyngin Gompa for overnight stop. An excellent spot with impressive views of mountains in all directions.
The nearest peak Langtang Lirung of above 7000m and its icefall. Kyngin Gompa has a small monastery located on top of the ridge which is made by glacial moraine with rocks and boulders. Kyngin Gompa has many lodges and a cheese factory.
Day 07: Rest-Day for acclimatization at leisure for hike around. (B/L/D)
After many days of good walk, today a free day with an optional walk around the closer hill. We can go to Kyngin Ri 4,700m for more better views of the surrounding snow-capped peaks.
Day 08: Trek to Lama Hotel 2, 350m – 06 hours. (B/L/D)
After an excellent time at Kyngin Gompa. We return back to Lama Hotel on the same path passing Langtang and Ghoretablea village and through pleasant forest.
Day 09: Trek to Upper Syabru village 2,118m – 05 hours. (B/L/D)
From here after an hour walk our route diverts to another trail to Upper Syabru also known as Thulo Syabru, walk is pleasant through the bamboo forest, after leaving the river climb starts uphill through a landslide of rocks and boulders, passing farm terraces till Upper Syabru.
Day 10: Trek to Singh Gompa 3,254m – 04 hours. (B/L/D)
The walk today is shorter for fours trekking, the morning begins with an uphill above the monastery. With fascinating view of Ganesh-Himal, Manaslu, Langtang and Annapurna range towards West.
After a few stops on the route, the walk continues into a cool forest of rhododendron and pines. The walk is almost gradual with a nice trail through pines and rhododendron tree lines to Sing Gompa for overnight stop.
Day 11: Trek to Gosainkund 4,381m -05 hours. (B/L/D)
The morning walk offers fantastic views of the snow-clad mountain range. We will see mountains like Langtang to Ganesh-Himal range and Mt. Manaslu further west Annapurna mountains.
Walking for an hour into the forest of oaks, pines and rhododendron trees with a magnificent view of Langtang mountain range, the walk continues uphill leaving behind tree lines for smaller dwarf rhododendron, juniper bushes.
The walk climbs passing few teahouses at Laurabina, with excellent views of mountains and valleys. Then reaching the top of Laurabina meaning a place with walking sticks, in the holy auspicious time around August in full moon.
A great mass of pilgrims pays a visit to Gosainkund pond for a dip in this holy pond and to replace their holy thread into new. From here walk descend for an hour coming at first ponds of Saraswati and Bhiarav-kund. Then a short climb to overnight stop at Gosainkund close to a pristine holy pond.
Day 12: Trek to Ghopte Odar 3,566m via Laurabina-La 4,609 -06 hrs. (B/L/D)
After a pleasant and nice time here, starting the morning walk along the bank of this holy lake. Then climbing near the small ridge between rocks and boulders.
The trekking near to Surjakund pond, the walk from here is gradual with winding up to the last pass of Gosainkund. It is also called east Laurabina La which is the highest spot of this trip at 3,694 meters.
After the top, a long downhill reaches to Phedi (bottom), from here on the long winding trail and back into forest all the way to Ghopte Odar for overnight stop.
Day 13: Trek to Kutumsang 2,445m via Mange-Ghot 3,285 m – 06 hrs. (B/L/D)
Morning walk begins on the trail that joins Helambu and route to Kathmandu. Trekking is pleasant into a cool forest with an hour climb to Tharepati at 3,597m.
A beautiful spot on the top ridge with overwhelming views of snow-capped mountains. Mountains from Jugal Himal range in the east and towards west Ganesh-Manaslu.
After a nice break here, walk leads downhill through enchanting forest to Kutumsang village at 2,445m. Village with Yolmo, Sherpa and Tamang hill tribes,
this is around the Helambu area.
Day 14: Trek to Gul Bhangjang 2,125m – 04 hours. (B/L/D)
After a lovely time and pleasant morning, walk follows on the winding path with few ups and down passing farm terraces. We pass through villages till Gul-Bhanjyang is reached for the overnight halt.
Day 15: Trek to Chisopani Danda 2,195m – 05 hours. (B/L/D)
The morning walk is a pleasant passing number of farm villages. The journey brings to a nice village at Pati Bhanjayang after 3 hours of a good walk.
From this village a short climb to Chisopani danda a scenic spot at the top of the hilltop. It is un-route to Kathmandu and to other places at the rim of Kathmandu Valley.
Chisopani, a scenic spot with many lodges and teahouses offering panoramic views of Jugal with Langtang Himal range and Ganesh Himal-Manaslu. We can also see Annapurna massive range towards the west and these places provides stunning sunrise and sunset views as well.
Day 16: Trek to Sundarijal 1,380m hour drive back to Kathmandu. (B)
The final walk of this remarkable trip. The morning starts through pristine woodlands and farmlands. Then walking on the top ridges of Burlang and Chepu Bhanjyang at 2,438m with a super view of Kathmandu Valley.
From here walk leads downhill to Sundarijal (meaning beautiful water) which is a beautiful place with cool forest surroundings. An hour downhill walks to Sundarijal located at the end of Kathmandu valley northeastern rim.
From here an hour drive to Kathmandu through the famed Bouddhanath renowned for its enormous Buddhist Stupa. Evening, if you are interested, we can go for a cultural dinner.
Day 17: Departure to your country or your onward destination. (B)
This is the final day of your Langtang Gosainkunda and Helambu Trek.
