Overview of the Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek – 21 days

We will begin our 21 days – Jiri to Everest Base Camp trek from Shivalaya to reach Bhandar. Bhandar lies at the altitude of 2194m. On the way to Sete, we may also spot a wide diversity of flora and fauna on the way, including gray langurs, monkeys, etc.

Living in the wooded area deep in the valley. We will also walk through the forests filled with rhododendron, birch and magnolia trees. Plus, before crossing Takshindo, from the top of the hill, we can observe the unbelievable vistas of Everest, Mera Peak, Thamserku, and Kantega.

As you land at Kathmandu airport, a representative from Trekking Guide Team Adventure will wait for you with a play card of the company to welcome you. He will transfer you to the hotel. Overnight at Kathmandu.

On this day after breakfast, at around 9 am we will leave the hotel for sightseeing trips to some of the cultural and historical places enlisted in UNESCO World Heritage Sites. You will visit Monkey Temple popularly known as Swayambhunath.

It is set on the hillock and holds Buddha’s eyes on the four sides of the stupa. The set also displays the view of Kathmandu city from the top. We will also visit Boudhanath, another Buddhist stupa probably the largest on the earth.

Pashupatinath temple, a well-known Hindu temple of Lord Shiva and is located on the shores of the sacred Bagmati River; and Patan Durbar Square allures visitors showing up beautiful art and architecture as well as the antique royal palace where the Malla Kings of Lalitpur once resided.

Also, we will prepare for our trek starting from the next day. Overnight at Kathmandu.

We will wake up early in the morning. We will start driving from Kathmandu at 7 am via local bus to reach Shivalaya. From Kathmandu, though located 210km away the bus requires around 7 hours and 30 minutes for Shivalaya. Overnight at tea house or lodge.

After having our breakfast, we will walk away from Shivalaya to reach Bhandar which lies at the altitude of 2194m which will take approximately 5 hours and 30 minutes.

On the way, we will notice that the path is framed by deep woods and the way is filled with trekkers, villagers as well as porters. Overnight at tea house or lodge.

From Bhandar, we will walk ahead moving a way down to Likhu River. On the way, we may also spot a wide diversity of flora and fauna on the way, including gray langurs, monkeys, etc, residing in the wooded area deep in the valley.

Also, we will pass by villages like Doharpa and Baranda before going across Tharo Khola (1480m) via a suspension bridge. We will walk on the east shore of the river and climb uphill to Kinja. Trekking for around 6 hours from Bhandar, we will reach Sete. Overnight at tea house or lodge.

As we leave Sete on this day, we will get to walk through the forests filled with rhododendron, birch and magnolia trees. After that, the track climbs to Lamjura Pass lying at the height of 3500m.

Here you will notice the highest peak on the earth- Everest for the first time. We will have a great time at the pass, then, we will walk down to the charming Sherpa village of Junbesi. All in all, we will trek for 6 hours on this day. Overnight at tea house or lodge.

We will start trekking as soon as we finish our breakfast. We will cross the Junbesi River and go uphill. From the top of the hill, we can notice the fantastic vistas of Everest, Mera Peak, Thamserku, and Kantega.

We will also go across Ringmo River the path ascends uphill to Ringmo settlement. Then we will also walk to pass Takshind Pass set at the altitude of 2930m. we will trek for 5 hours on this day. Overnight at tea house or lodge.

We will walk ahead to reach kharikhola on this day which takes around 5 hours and 30 minutes. We will trek downhill to reach Nhuntala. Then, the path descends until it traverses the Dudh Koshi flowing from the high Himalayas. Walking further on, we will ascend from side to side with several Sherpa as well as Rai villages to get to the Kharikhola village. Overnight at tea house or lodge.

We will walk ahead leaving Kharikhola to get to Payu which takes approximately 6 hours. Payu is set at a height of 2939m. on the way, we will walk ascending the Dudh Koshi valley and also pass through rhododendron woods to reach Payu Village. Overnight at tea house or lodge.

After breakfast, we will continue trekking up from the Dudh Kosi river. Also, we will pass through Lukla which possibly is the normal trekking point to start trekking in the Everest region. Walking ahead, we will get to our tea house at Phakding lying at the altitude of 2610m. Overnight at tea house or lodge.

On this day, we will trek to Namche Bazaar, major trading set for the Khumbu region. Walking crossways through the river we will pass from side to side with blue pine forest and rhododendron wooded area.

As we reach Benkar, the eye-catching scenes of snow-topped peaks- Kusum Kanguru (6369m), Thamserku (6623m), etc will entirely mesmerize you. The trail now turns rather demanding and we will have a straight-up ascends to Namche Bazaar.

Also, we will traverse a suspension bridge and then we will ascend to Namche Bazaar where you will discover gigantic peaks-Everest, Nuptse, Taweche, Ama Dablam, Lhotse. Overnight at tea house or lodge.

We have a day to acclimatization day to rest at Namche Bazaar on this day and get properly accustomed to the high elevated environment. At Namche, we can capture the astonishing view of the Khumbu peaks-Ama Dablam (6856m), Thamserku (6608m), Everest and other gigantic peaks will mesmerize you.

Optionally, we can walk around the Sagarmatha National park to see the floras and faunas which have been conserved. Overnight at tea house or lodge.

We will walk ahead from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche taking around 5 hours. Tengboche is located at the height of 3860m and rewards you with the backdrop of Ama Dablam, Mt. Everest, Nupte, and a lot of more peaks.

Likewise, we will walk next to the rushing glacial river- Dudh Koshi with marvelous peak views like Mt. Everest, Thamserku, Khangtaiga, Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Lhotse and more.

Moreover, the series of fascinating prayer wheels can be noticed. After traversing the bridge at Phunkitenga (3250m) we will have a climb on a steeper path and walk beside pine and juniper forest. Overnight at tea house or lodge.

We will leave Tengboche, after having our breakfast. On this day we will walk for five and a half hours and walk passing the wooded area of juniper, fir, birch, and rhododendron set at Debouche.

Also, the trail takes us to Pangboche where we will be arrested the eye-catching peak landscape of Ama Dablam. After that, an unwrapped alpine hillside also comes into view.

Then we will pass through the Imja river again to reach Dingboche, the last Sherpa settlement with the arresting terraced fields. Overnight at tea house or lodge.

We will take rest in Dingboche lying at the height of 4300m. We will walk around Dingboche and discover the colossal rock face of Tawoche which is simply breathtaking. Plus, we can hike to Chhukung-Ri set at the height of 5550m.

The towering south face views of Lhotse set on the north and the series of fluted ice walls of unknown peaks on the southern end of the valley and Island Peak in the heart of the valley. Overnight at tea house or lodge.

Walking ahead from Dingboche, we will trek to Lobuche lying at the altitude of 4910m which again takes five-and-a-half-hours. Our trail also climbs up to the Khumbu Glacier.

In addition, we will go up from Dughla and the path moves suddenly up to the peak of the moraine. The pathway then moves on a rather plane leveled track on the west face of the moraine before reaching Lobuche.

At Lobuche, the incredible views of Pumori (7145m), Changtse (7550m), etc will allure you. Overnight at tea house or lodge.

After having our breakfast, we will trek to Everest Base Camp. This is the most important day of the whole trek. We will stroll alongside the Khumbu Glacier to arrive at Everest Base Camp (5360m). It lies at the base of the highest peak, Mt. Everest.

En-route, when we get to the moraines of Changri Nup Glacier, we will also make small up and down stroll over an uneven track to reach Gorak Shep (5160m) from where we will trek to Everest Base Camp. Overnight at tea house or lodge.

We will head off from Gorakshep to trek up Kalapathhar set at the elevation of 5550m which is the superb viewpoint in the Everest area.

The spectacular peak vistas of Pumori (7,145m), Lingtren (6,697m), Changtse (7,750m), Khumbutse (6,623m) etc will greet us. We will after that walk to Pheriche. Overnight at tea house or lodge.

On this day, we will have our breakfast and then trek back to Namche Bazaar. Also, we will pass by Khunde settlement which presents us with the pleasing peak views. In addition, we will stroll to Thame village.

After that, we will move transversely through the Bhote River via a bridge and all the way through the area of Thamo to get there at Namche Bazaar. Overnight at tea house or lodge.

On this day, we will stroll down and go across the large suspension bridge on top of the Dudh Kosi River. Also, we will leave behind through Jorsale to get to Manjo. From Manjo, we will trek to Lukla taking around 6 hours 30 minutes. Overnight at tea house or lodge.

This is the last day of your Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek. Early in the morning, we will fly back to Kathmandu which takes 30 minutes. After that, we will help you transfer our hotel in Kathmandu. Overnight in the hotel.

Note: The weather in Lukla is unpredictable and always changing. Sometimes due to bad weather, sometimes the flight may be delayed or canceled. If the flight is canceled, you will have to return back to the hotel.

The transportation back to the hotel and accommodation on this night is not included. You will have to pay additional for this yourself. If the weather is clear the next day, you will get either 3rd or 4th flight to Lukla.

If still the weather is not clear, there will be option for helicopter flights also. The cost of a helicopter flight is not fixed. It will be quoted by the airlines on the same day. The airlines will use your flight ticket plus; you will have to pay an additional approx. 250 to 300 USD.

The total cost for a helicopter flight is 400 USD approx. You will have to pay an additional 250 USD combining your Lukla flight ticket. The weather problem is rare; it only happens sometimes.

But you need to know this information in case the weather goes bad. This does not happen all the time, this is only important information you need to know.

  • The EBC trek begins with an early morning flight to Lukla, either from Kathmandu Airport or Ramechhap Airport. It is a short but beautiful flight with stunning Himalayan mountain views. From Lukla, we will begin trekking with porters and descend to Phakding for the night stay. The trail goes through forests and small villages, offering stunning views of mountains like Kongde Ri and Chamlang.

    *Note: If you take a Lukla flight from Ramechhap Airport, you will leave the hotel in Kathmandu around 1:00 AM and dive to the Ramechhap airport in sharing bus. During the peak trekking seasons, the Lukla flights get shifted to Ramechhap Airport because of very high air traffic.

    The Everest trek includes flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. Sometimes the weather of Lukla becomes bad, at which time the flight cannot take place. So, in this case, there may be delay or cancel of the flights. You will have to be prepared for this.

    This does not always happen, but may sometimes happen depending on the weather condition. The weather of Lukla is unpredictable, that’s why we recommend you to have a few more days after the trek in case the flight is delayed or cancelled.

    If you have tight schedule, it will be hard to manage your return flight. So, even the trip days 16 days, we recommend you to have 2-3 extra days. If the flight does not happen for 2-3 days, then we will divert you to Annapurna Base Camp Trek and Kathmandu to Pokhara flight for your benefit.

    We also recommend you to have an extra budget for helicopter charter to return back from Lukla to Kathmandu. The helicopter cost is 3500 USD charter flight. It will be approx 500 USD per person which can be paid via cash or credit card.
