Trekking to the base camp of the world's highest mountain, Mount Everest is not a Joke. Trekkers will face several challenges during the Everest Base Camp Trek and some of them are mentioned below:

✔ Flight cancellations:

If you are trekking to EBC from Lukla, then flight cancellation due to the extreme weather condition is one of the major challenges you will face during the trip. In such condition, Trekkers can choose to drive to Jiri and then trek to EBC or take an alternative route to Lukla via Salleri. Salleri to Lukla is a three days trek.

✔ Altitude sickness:

As you move further from Lukla, the altitude rises significantly. That's why most of the Trekking itineraries to EBC have acclimatization on Namche and Dingboche. If you let your body adjust to the change in altitude properly, you can reduce the chances of having altitude sickness. The key is to go slow, avoid alcohol, drink enough water, and let your body adjust to the change.

✔ Food and Accommodation during Peak Season in Everest:

The teahouses/lodges in EBC offer several food items like Nepali and continental cuisines. However, during the peak seasons like September to November and March to May, the lodges are packed, so you might have to wait for hours to enjoy your food. And for accommodation, if you have not booked earlier, you may end up sleeping in the dining or the dormitory.

✔ Toilets and Drinking water:

Most of the lodges in the Khumbu region now have the western style toilets. However, as you move to a higher altitude, you will have to compromise on squat toilets. You might be overwhelmed using it for the first time but you will get used to it eventually.

Similarly, drinking water is another challenge you might face during the trip. The natural sources of water in the trail to EBC are supposed to be hazardous. Hence, we recommend drinking mineral water, boiled water, or using purification tablets before drinking them from natural sources.

The level of difficulty also depends upon the trekking destination you choose. While the Ghorepani Poonhill trek, Australian base camp trek, and Mardi Himal trek are supposed to be easy treks. The
Everest base camp trek, Annapurna base camp trek, Manaslu trek, and treks to the off-beaten remote areas are supposed to be challenging and require physical fitness, stamina, and endurance to face the challenges.

To prepare yourself for the trek, you can start cardiovascular and strength training that includes walking/cycling/hiking or even swimming. Apart from this, doing sits up, crunches and squats will also help you to condition your leg for trekking to remote trails.

The minimum duration of trekking is 3-8 days. However, the trekking with minimum days does not offer
enough acclimatization for your body to adjust in the change in the weather.

It's not mandatory to hire a guide during the EBC trek. But we strongly recommend our trekkers hire a guide as the EBC trek itself is one physically and mentally challenging trek of Nepal. So, hiring a guide means he/she will look after you during the trip giving extra comfort and care.

After covid has settled a bit, Nepal was my first place to visit for my refreshment holiday. Thanks to my friend Jonathon Thomas who recommended me Trekking Guide Team and Kabiraj for my Annapurna Base Camp Trek in Nepal. March 2nd, 2022, I solo trekked to ABC with off-course with a very friendly experienced guide - Mr. Ram Sharan Timsina.

Well, no one can miss the epic Everest base camp trek and Annapurna base camp trek while talking about the popular places to do trekking in Nepal. However, besides these two major trekking destinations,
the Langtang trek, Manaslu trek, and Annapurna circuit trek are other popular trekking destinations among the trekkers who love the off-beaten trails.

Nepal offers plenty of adventurous activities to its visitors. From paragliding in the beautiful Pokhara city to bungee jumping in the Bhotekoshi river, you can feel your adrenaline rush in the most epic way.

Apart from bungee and paragliding, you can also enjoy mountain biking, rock climbing, and white river rafting all in a single trip.

Although Nepalese have a conservative mindset, they are always opened to their guests and accept them for who they are. Following the Mantra, Aati Thi Devo Bhaba, Nepalese are pleased with the
visitors in every corner of the country. However, being alone in a foreign land is never a good idea.

So make sure you keep yourself out from being gazed at and always do a background check on your
guide for safety as well.

▪ Water from the local sources is not safe to drink so you should not drink water directly from the tap. You can buy bottled water throughout the trail. However, bottled water is slightly expensive so we highly suggest you carry tablets, water purifiers, or SteriPen purifiers.

▪ Yes, we recommend you to have travel insurance before trekking to Mardi Himal. It is better to get insurance that covers medical charges,  helicopter evacuation, theft, and so forth.

▪ You can face altitude sickness above 3,000m from the sea level. You’re always at risk of suffering from altitude sickness since the maximum elevation of this trek is 4,500m at Mardi Himal Base Camp. Therefore, it is essential to stay hydrated and take safety precautions while trekking.

▪ The teahouses and lodges of Mardi Himal Trek provide basic services. They offer common rooms and toilets in sharing-basis. Hot showers, WiFi, boiled water, and charging facilities are available in the teahouses but will cost you extra money.
